BOVILLA LAKE

My first proper long ride.

26 February 2023 / Cloudy, really windy, light rain on the way back

Starting off my first proper bike ride, I was really nervous. I had done a couple of test rides before, but not being fully equipped with the proper gear I wasn't able to go really far, so this ride was nothing like one of them. This time it was serious, with around 30km and 560m of elevation back and forth from my starting point (my home in Tirana) I was honestly really scared. I had never done something like this before and doing it alone really didn't help much.

But after somewhat overcoming my fear of something going wrong during the ride and me not being able to do anything about it with my awesome newly acquired YouTube knowledge, I put my on my brand new helmet, filled my water bottle really neatly, strapped on my saddle bag which I had prepared the night before and it was GAME ON!

First few kilometers going out of the city I honestly wasn't really excited. Traffic was terrible as every bad weather day in Tirana, so the air was quite polluted. Getting weird looks from people for wearing a helmet on a bicycle didn't bring my excitement up either. Around this time people still weren't really used to see cyclist around, and when they did they always thought they were foreigners and greeted by yelling "HELLOO!". Nowadays they still do this, but not as much as before because cycling became a lot more popular during these past few years. I guess some of them they got used to it and gave up lol. Things changed for the better after some time though, leaving behind the last city buildings and entering the countyside.
